Is Bill Frist (R-TN) idiotic or prescient to state that what Americans care about most is their safety in response to the newest evidence that the "War on Terror" has created increased threat? "I think the American people, when they read an article like that ... say, 'Listen, just keep me safe -- I just want to be safe in Nashville, Tennessee, I want to be safe in Memphis, New York City, Washington, DC,' that's what they want." [source]The report, Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the United States, was completed in April of 2006 but recently leaked to the NY Times and Washington Post. It has become front page news across the globe. The bad news for the Bush administration won't change the White House mantra that Frist and other heel-clickers will utter for weeks to come. "American is safer without Saddam..."
The truth of the matter is that the Bushites and those crafty puppetmasters in the shadows really weren't trying to make the "world safer" for the US or anyone else. The proverbial round-peg-in-a-square-hole analogy is not as simple as it seems for those who believe that the neo-cons are simply wrong about all this. Quite the contrary, as others have stated before, the "War on Terror" is a self-serving entity, nay a business model that both serves and profits certain individuals. [also]
Not only is this nefarious war enriching individuals of power, but it also serves the ideologues in Washington and Tel-Aviv. For the Christian extremists (Bush included) itching for the Second Coming, the unleashing of armies across the lands that birthed civilizations, is the "right" thing to do when you love the Lord... For the Zionist strategists who share the halls of power in two capitals, the destruction and reshaping of the Middle East (i.e. bomb the hell out of the Arabs) strengthens the nearsighted goals of leaders who still believe that the Palestinians can be exterminated and the rest of the Arabs subdued by force.
Our safety in the United States and elsewhere will never be guaranteed by force and violence, and certainly not when that violence creates legions of new enemies who have just been given a real reason to realize their new hatred of America when their countries are bombed and occupied and their fellow citizens murdered. Perhaps during earlier times, their "hatred of America" was vocalized over heated discussions in the tea houses, nonetheless an idle and passing utterance and not a call to arms, yet now true personal losses create warriors who are willing to fight to the death to avenge personal or national injustices.
So Mr., er, Dr. Frist is sort of right in a way; we all want safety and expect that this is the role for our government. Its just that his alleged strategy for our safety as Americans has actually put us and our global neighbours at even greater risk...
